What "Roof Penetrations" Actually Mean — and Why They Matter

Most homeowners don't spend much time thinking about roof penetrations. But when solar goes in, your roof gets drilled — typically 20 to 40 holes for a standard residential system, more for larger arrays. Each lag bolt that anchors a panel rail goes through your shingles, your underlayment, and into the roof decking. Each conduit that brings power down from the array needs a weatherproof boot.
